Mrs. Kate Boyens is currently the K-5 English Learner Teacher at Scott Elementary School in Naperville Community Unit School District 203 in Naperville, Illinois. The 2017-2018 school year will be her 12th year teaching, and she has taught kindergarten, 4th grade, and English learners in kindergarten through 5th grade. Prior to teaching in Naperville, she was a classroom teacher in Wood Dale, Illinois.
Kate created this site to help colleagues, students, family, and friends explore the world with her as she travels across the globe and immerses herself in the Indonesian culture and educational system. She is also hoping this site can be a valuable resource for educators looking to learn about global education and integrate more global learning into their classrooms, schools, communities, and possibly even their own homes!
About Teachers for Global Classrooms
Teachers for Global Classrooms (TGC) is a grant-funded program through the U.S. Department of State and the International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX). TGC provides educators with an intensive year-long professional development program that helps them bring a global perspective to their school communities and become leaders in global education. Upon acceptance into the program, TGC Fellows engage in four key program activities:
8-week, graduate-level global education course
global education symposium in Washington, D.C.
2 to 3-week international field experience to learn about another country's culture & education system
capstone project, which involves creating this Global Education Guide as a local community resource.
After completing the fellowship, TGC alumni are eligible to apply for grants and have opportunities to continue networking with other global educators. To learn more about TGC and/or to apply for the program, click here. Applications open in December.

Who are the Scott School Eagles?
We are a group of awesome educators, students, and families who work as a team at Scott Elementary School! Though, as a whole, the Naperville community is a middle to upper class and predominantly Caucasian population, Scott School is lucky to serve a more diverse student population than most other District 203 elementary schools. Scott School students share a variety of socioeconomic, linguistic, ethnic, and racial backgrounds. The English learners at our school come from diverse cultures from all around the world, and they add rich cultural and linguistic contributions to our classrooms every day. This past year, our current English learners collectively spoke 17 different languages in their homes! To learn more about Scott School, click here.
